A loud drum roll is guaranteed on Saturday evening, as the “Basel City Championship for the Golden Drum” will then take place. The specially composed drum march will send the sand flying in the St. Jakobshalle.

As the main event of the day the show jumping competition enjoys great popularity, and its prize money makes it extremely attractive. It plays a decisive role in shaping the identity of this world-class event.

No symbol speaks more eloquently of the self-image and pride of this city on the Rhine than a Fasnachts-Drummle – and the images of the award of the Golden Drum, the LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL, and the city itself will be carried far and wide across the globe.

Behind the Golden Drum stands one of the landmarks of the city of Basel: the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois Basel. Originally established by the owners, Ursula and Thomas Straumann, this show jumping competition now serves as a special prize in the City of Basel Championships. This, too, lends the Golden Drum a distinctive Basel flair.

Not surprisingly, the challenge trophy does not leave the city of Basel. The winners’ names are simply engraved on the golden drum – and the winners themselves slip an (almost as beautiful) replica into their saddlebag.
