BASEL—THE CITY OF CULTURE
ON THE RHINE.

Basel—a city in Switzerland full of fascinating contrasts. It is considered the cultural capital of Switzerland. With its world-famous museums and high-profile events, the city at the bend of the Rhine has simply become a hotspot for the art world.

Nearly 40 museums with world-renowned exhibitions—this is unique in Switzerland and ranks among the very best even by international standards. The Fondation Beyeler is Switzerland’s most-visited art museum and captivates visitors with first-rate exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. The Museum Tinguely houses the best-known works of Swiss artist Jean Tinguely, and the Kunstmuseum Basel—home to the world’s oldest public art collection—features works ranging from Holbein to Picasso, as well as high-caliber special exhibitions. It is therefore no coincidence that Art Basel, the world’s most important art fair, takes place here.

A mecca for architecture enthusiasts

Chilling at the "Rhyviera"
In summer, life pulses along the banks of the Rhine. Many locals also enjoy a very special kind of leisure activity: swimming in the Rhine. Anyone who hops into the river, lets themselves drift past the Old Town, and spends one of the many mild summer nights on the Kleinbasel banks will feel a touch of the Mediterranean in Basel. By the way, the colorful "Wickelfisch" keeps your clothes dry – a swim bag in the shape of a fish and an original Basel invention.

Many discounts with the free BaselCard
Anyone staying overnight in Basel can make the most of the city's diverse cultural offerings with the BaselCard. This personal and free guest card is presented to visitors upon check-in. Free use of public transport and guest Wi-Fi are among the attractive benefits of the BaselCard, as are 50% discounts on admission to Basel's museums, the Basel Zoo, or Theater Basel, as well as discounted Old Town tours. With the BaselCard, a visit to the cultural capital on the Rhine becomes an unforgettable experience!
